Preschool Evergreen Christmas Wreath

The Preschool Evergreen Christmas Wreath is traditional form of the Christmas Wreath. Since it should be misted daily to keep it from drying out, it’s best to decorate the Preschool Evergreen Christmas Wreath with water resistant materials and hang it outdoors.  Some evergreen Christmas wreaths purchased from florists come with a floral oasis that can be watered to keep the evergreens fresh.

Materials you will NeedDifficulty level 2 out of five

1 pre-made evergreen wreath
Red and gold plastic bead garlands or color of choice
One waterproof red bow designed of outdoor use
Dark green chenille stems
Plastic toy-shaped Christmas ornaments

How to Make it

Step 1:
Choose where the top of the wreath will be. Attach the end of both colors of bead garland here with a chenille stem. Be sure to twist it very tightly so it doesn’t slip.

Step 2:
Holding the strands together, wrap them around the wreath from inside to outside, all the way around, using chenille stems as you go to keep the garland in place. Stop at the top where the end meets the beginning.

Step 3:
Attach the end to the top where it began with another chenille stem.

Step 4:
Attach the ornaments in the bare places between the loops of garland using more chenille stems. If the ends of the chenille stem stick out, tuck the excess into the evergreen to hide it.

Step 5:
Attach the bow to the top of the wreath. If it did not come with a way to attach it, use more chenille stems.

Step 6:
Hang the wreath. Mist daily with a spray bottle for misting houseplants.

Alternative Decorations:

Alternative 1:
Instead of the ornaments, attach pinecones.

Alternative 2:
Instead of ornaments, place stems of dried or artificial red berries amongst the evergreens. Holly is particularly nice.

Alternative 3:
Use craft glue to stick together clusters of nuts still in the shell. Be sure to leave a space between them for the chenille stem to attach it to the wreath.

Alternative 4:
If you have the type of Christmas wreath with an oasis, you can use bright flowers and stems of fresh berries, but be sure they are not a variety that is not toxic. Flowers may have to be changed one or more times if the wreath is displayed for more than a few days.

Helpful Tips for Parents

Tip 1:
Hang the evergreen wreath low enough that your preschool can help mist it daily.

Tip 2:
Be sure the wreath is hung far away from any source of heat.

Tip 3:
When attaching the chenille stems to the garlands, try to slip them between the beads on the back side of the wreath.
