Windsock Recycled Craft

This open-ended project will allow your preschooler to use his/her creativity to create and decorate a windsock in any manner they choose. You can suggest themes such as wind, waves, or sun and stars if you would like or just let your preschooler use their imagination!

As with any preschool craft, this is a suggestion of how to make it. You can modify the instructions to work for you and your family and use supplies you have on hand.

Construction paper
Various craft materials to decorate:

     -paper scraps

     -crayons
Crepe paper or tissue paper

Glue or tape the crepe paper strips (or cut strips of tissue paper) to the bottom inside of the container. Let it all dry.

Step Four:

Punch four holes near the top of the windsock and tie with string as shown in detail. Help your preschooler choose a suitable place to hang their creation. Watch the wind blow!

Variations

You can recycle any type of cylindrical container for this project. Try making windsocks of different sizes and hang them together. Does the wind affect them differently because of their size? Make a collection of small windsocks using toilet paper tubes and hang them from the trees to decorate for a backyard party.
