Wiggle Worm Everyday Preschool Craft

WiggleWorm ©mcmath2007With very few supplies you and your preschooler can make a whole collection of these Wiggle Worms. Get a group of children together, let them each make a few and then trade them with their friends. They are so cute and easy enough for the youngest of the group to make. You can bend them any way you choose – around pencils, wrists (for bracelets), hair (for pony tails) – use your imagination! They will put a smile on the face of everyone who sees them.

Step One:
Let your preschooler pick a chenille stem and whatever color beads he/she wants to use for the Wiggle Worm.

Step Two:
Thread the wooden bead onto the chenille stem for the head and bend the end to keep it on.

Start threading the interlocking beads onto the stem. Your preschooler can practice making a pattern with the beads (red, green, blue, red, green, blue…).

Step Four:
When the Wiggle Worm is as long as you like, trim the extra off and bend the stem to keep the beads from falling off.

Step Five:
Use the marker to draw a face on your worm. Now you’re ready to share your Wiggle Worm with your friends!

Variations

Use different types of beads to make fancier worms. Make a whole family of worms and build a little house for them out of an old shoe box. Wrap them around house plants to add a little whimsy.
