Rain or Shine CD Educational Preschool Craft

Here’s an educational preschool craft that teaches about recycling, weather, and rainbows all at once. This Rain or Shine CD Preschool Craft is easy to make and when you’re done, your preschooler can use it every morning to note the weather of the day. Find a sunny window and watch the rainbows dance across the room!

What You Need

2 CD’s that you would otherwise throw out
Construction Paper – orange, yellow, and blue
Cotton Balls
String or Thin Ribbon
Blue Beads (or other item to represent rain drops)
Tape
Glue Stick
Scissors
Pen

How To Make It

Step One:
Have your preschooler trace the CD onto the orange construction paper to make a circle. Do the same with the blue paper then cut out both circle shapes.

Step Two:
Cut several triangles from the orange and yellow paper for the sun rays. Cut several lengths of string and tie a blue bead at the end of each one.

Step Three:
Tape the sun rays on the CD (the side with the printing on it) around the edges so you can see them from the other side. Tape in a length of string for hanging. Then, tape the orange circle into place and the sun is done.

Step Four:
Tape a length of string on the other CD for hanging( the side with the printing). Tape the lengths of string that have beads on them on to the CD also. Then Tape on the blue circle that was cut out earlier. Let your preschooler use the glue stick to glue cotton ball “clouds” onto the blue construction paper. The rain cloud is done.

Step Five:
Every morning, ask your preschooler is it is sunny or cloudy/rainy. Then choose the appropriate CD sun catcher and hang it someplace where it will catch the light and reflect beautiful rainbows around the room! Talk about what makes a rainbow, about recycling, about clouds, and about the sun to make this preschool craft even more educational.

Variations

You can use CD’s to make a mobile that will brighten up any room. Use CD’s in the garden to scare away unwanted animal visitors.
