If it’s the right time of year, you can try growing your own gourds to use for this preschool craft. Or, you can search the pumpkin patches in October, a lot of them offer birdhouse gourds for sale.

Difficulty Level 3 out of 5What You Need

Dried Birdhouse Gourd
Stickers, Pictures from Magazines, Photos – anything your preschooler wants to decoupage onto the bank.
Decoupage Glue – such as Mod Podge
Knife, Roto Zip, or some sort of Saw/Drill – PARENT USE ONLY
Tape

How To Make It

Step One:

PARENT: Cut a hole in the bottom of the gourd (where the money will come out later) and get all of the seed, etc. out of the gourd. Then cut a slit in the top of the gourd that is large enough for a fifty cent piece to fit through.

Step Two:

Get all of your stickers, photos, magazine clippings, etc. ready. Then, begin to decoupage them onto the gourd (according to package directions).

Step Three: optional
After putting the final coats of decoupage paste onto the gourd, let it dry completely and start adding some change!

Variations

There are many things you can make out of Birdhouse Gourds. You could even make a decoupaged birdhouse!
